A Guide to Hilton Grand Vacations (HGV)

Your Flexible Gateway to Global Adventures

Hilton Grand Vacations (HGV) offers an expansive vacation ownership experience, perfectly suited for travelers who value flexibility, diverse destinations, and the consistency and quality of the Hilton brand.

Who is Hilton Grand Vacations For?

HGV is an excellent choice for travelers seeking diverse vacation experiences within a reputable brand. It appeals to those who enjoy planning their trips proactively and can leverage the flexibility of a points system to explore various destinations. Given its strong presence in popular U.S. leisure markets, it’s particularly appealing for families and individuals who frequently visit entertainment-focused destinations like Florida, Hawaii, and Las Vegas, while also offering select international experiences.

Understanding the HGV System

HGV operates on a points-based system, providing members with an annual allocation of ClubPoints. The number of points you receive is determined by your ownership interest, which is typically tied to the amount of points required to book a specific unit type and size at a specific “Home Resort” during a specific season.

The Home Resort

A key consideration for HGVC owners is their ‘Home Resort’. This is because your ‘Home Resort’ will dictate both your annual fees/dues, as well as your booking windows for when you can book that resort vs. other properties in the portfolio.

Annual Dues based on Home Resort

When you buy an HGVC contract you are buying and will receive a certain amount of points (either annually or biannually) and committing to annual dues that correspond to those points. The amount of points allocated are typically tied to a specific unit size at the specific resort and the amount of points required to book that unit for a week in the season of your contract.

Example: Currently, booking a two-bedroom suite at the Hilton on the Boulevard for a week in peak season costs 11,200 ClubPoints. Booking a two-bedroom suite at the Hilton on the Boulevard during off-season is 8,000 ClubPoints. As such a peak season contract will at the Boulevard will get you 11,200 points. While an off season contract will get you 8,000 points.

Interesting, the maintenance fees on each of these two-bedroom contracts are the same, because within HGV maintenance fees are based on the unit size, regardless of the season.

Example: Going back to the two-bedroom suite at the Boulevard, both the 11,200 and 8,000 contracts have maintenance fees of ~$1,100 annual (at the time of this writing)

As such, the cost of points can vary dramatically, even though those points carry the same value across the portfolio when booking at other resorts (more on this below).

Booking Windows

A second consideration of the home resort are the booking windows associated with it.  While the points offer broad flexibility, the Home Resort concept grants exclusive advance reservation privileges, allowing you to secure your preferred week at your deeded resort up to 12 months in advance in your deeded season. Before the windows open up to all HGV members and all seasons at your home resort at the 9 month mark.

HGV offers a cash option during ‘Open Season’ which are for any stay with a check-out date within 30 days. These cash options are significantly cheaper than booking with Hilton directly, often slightly higher than the equivalent cost from a point perspective, but benefit from not using any Club Points.

Points Usage and Booking Dynamics

ClubPoints are the currency used for booking all stays at any resort. Regardless of the underlying cost of the club point, one club point equals one club point when booking across the portfolio. What you’ll notice are the amount of points needed to book depend on a number of factors including:

  • The Resort and Destination
  • Unit Size: Larger accommodations naturally require more points.
  • Seasonality: Peak seasons (e.g., Platinum) demand more points than off-peak times (e.g., Gold).
  • Weekday vs. Weekend: Weekend days (Thursday, Friday, Saturday nights) consistently cost twice as many points as Weekday nights.

To illustrate, here’s a sample of nightly and weekly point requirements across resorts, seasons, unit sizes and day of the week:
